All stars head for tournaments

North Whidbey Little League hosts two District 11 All-Star Tournaments.

“The North Whidbey Little League is hosting two District 11 All-Star Tournaments. The Junior Softball tournament started July 8 and ends July 14, and the district’s Little League Baseball tournament starts July 15 and ends July 22. The all-star teams from Anacortes, San Juan, South Skagit, Central Whidbey and more will battle it out at the City Beach Little League Complex. It’s fun to bring that level of competition into town, Tim Shelley, North Whidbey Little League President, said. It’s fun for the kids to see.The 13/14 year-old softball team, which remains undefeated in the double-elimination tournament, beat Anacortes 8-4 Monday, and they play Sedro-Wooley in a semi-final match tonight. The winners of the two semi-final games play in the championship game on Friday, and the winner moves on to the state all-star tournament..They’ve got good pitching left and seem to be competitive against the other teams, Shelley said. Oak Harbor also will host the Senior Softball State All-Star Tournament from July 21 to July 27. North Whidbey’s team automatically qualified for the tournament because it is the only one from our region, and Oak Harbor volunteered to host the tournament because other towns didn’t enthusiastically go for it.We figured as long as we’re going to be in it we might as well host it so we don’t have to travel, Shelley said.Games start at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and noon on Sundays, and weekday games start at 6 p.m. All games are free, and North Whidbey has one team in each tournament.”
