The Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team put 11 men on base but had trouble getting them home in a 13-3, six-inning loss to Anacortes Friday, July 1, at Sedro-Woolley’s Janiki Field.

The loss eliminated Oak Harbor from the district tournament and ended its season.

Oak Harbor had nine hits and plenty of base runners but couldn’t cash in. Brent Mertins led the way with three hits, including two doubles. C.J. Meders and Alex Leech each finished 2-for-3.

Anacortes didn’t have trouble pushing in its runners as it scored in every inning.

Oak Harbor scored a single run in the second and two in the fifth.

Ben Fikse walked to start the second, moved to third on Meders’ single and scored on Leech’s base hit.

In the fifth, Mertins singled and scored on Brandon Bailey’s double. Bailey eventually scored on Fikse’s ground out.

Oak Harbor coach Bill Young said, “I was very proud to see several players make major headway in their hitting, fielding and pitching.”
