Ten North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers completed the Kamiak Mile on Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Kamiak High School pool in Edmonds.

First-time milers for NWAC included Danae Nash, who recorded a time of 21:44.29, Kaitlyn Chelberg, clocked at 27:26.79, Chris Cloo, with a time of 28:47.30 and Preston Rankin who finished the mile swim in a time of 29:09.99.

Veteran NWAC milers also made their mark, led by 13-year-old Caley Powers with a fifth-place finish. His time of 18:15.20 was fast enough for a Senior Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS) Championship qualifying time and a team record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:04.77), en route to completing the 1,650 yard swim.

Teammate Laura Rosen also established a team record with her split at the 1,000 of 11:11.43.

Rachel Weinstein (19:16.71) and Cole Weinstein (19:35.79) both recorded PNS Championships qualifying times, while Mollie Briddell had the biggest improvement of the day, carving 4:24.89 from her previous best to finish in 23:49.28.

Dakota Powers also completed the mile, narrowly missing a PR but maintaining an alternate-side breathing pattern from start to finish.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.
