Two Oak Harbor High School pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter and the Wildcats bunched all their offense into one inning in a 10-1 win over visiting Stanwood Thursday, March 31.

Jack Richter and Gabe Clark limited the Spartans to a double in the sixth inning and one unearned run.

Richter walked the game’s leadoff hitter, the only walk the two Wildcat pitchers would yield, and a couple of errors allowed the Spartans to score the first run.

That single run stood up until the fifth inning when Oak Harbor erupted for all 10 of its runs.

Peter Franssen led off the fifth with an infield hit. Sam Wolfe walked and Jay Stout bunted for a base hit to load the bases.

Yale Rosen put the ‘Cats up with a two-run single. Ryan Byrne was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Sam Glavick followed with a pinch-hit, RBI single.

After a pitching change, Josh Evans singled in two runs. After a strikeout, Austyn Walker tripled down the right-field line to push across two more runs.

Franssen’s second infield single of the inning scored Matt Jackson who was running for Walker. After Wolfe was hit by a pitch and Stout walked to load the bases, Franssen scored on a wild pitch.

Rosen was intentionally walked and Byrne walked to force in the final run.

Richter pitched the first three innings and had one strikeout to go with his walk and unearned run. Clark pitched four innings, picked up the win, gave up one hit and struck out four.

The Wildcats had 11 hits by nine different players; Stout and Franssen had two each.

Coach Tyson VanDam said, “We played well today. We fed off each other once things got going in the fifth.”

Oak Harbor (5-1-1, 2-0) has won five straight and faces undefeated Marysville-Pilchuck (5-0) in a nonleague game at 4 p.m. today, April 1, on the OHHS diamond.
