The Coupeville baseball team continued its winning ways with a 9-1 victory over visiting South Whidbey Monday, April 12.

The win was the fourth in a row for the fourth-place Wolves (5-5, 7-5) and helped put some distance between them and the fifth-place Falcons (3-7, 5-7).

As has been the case throughout the winning streak, Coupeville combined a strong pitching performance, a hard-hitting offensive attack and a solid defense.

Ian Smith pitched a four-hitter and struck out seven. Coach Willie Smith said of his son’s pitching, “He did a nice job mixing speeds and really kept them off balance.”

Offensively, the Wolves pounded out 11 hits. J.D. Wilcox got things started with a two-run home run in the first inning and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Chad Brookhouse and Kevin Eaton each went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Defensively, Coupeville played errorless ball and catcher Chase Griffin threw out two of three base stealers.

Coach Smith said, “The kids are really playing well right now: good hitting, good pitching and good defense.”

The Wolves play at South Whidbey Wednesday, April 14, and then host the Falcons Friday, April 16, at 4 p.m.
