Granite Falls rapped 23 hits and scored in the first nine innings in a double-header sweep of the Coupeville baseball team at Robert Sherman Field Wednesday, April 13.

The Tigers (5-7, 5-5) shock off the rain and took the first game 13-3 in five innings, then grabbed the second game 11-3.

The Wolves led 3-2 in the first inning in the opener, then “the errors started to mount,” according to Coupeville coach Willie Smith.

Coupeville committed six errors in the game and only four of the 13 Tiger runs were earned.

The miscues forced Coupeville starter Ian Smith to throw 60 pitches in the first two innings.

In the second game, Brandt Bodamer came in relief in the fourth inning and held the Tigers scoreless over the final three innings.

Coupeville coach Willie Smith said, “We did get eight hits in the second game but couldn’t string them together.”

He added, “In the second game we played a little bit cleaner and committed only two errors and neither led to runs.”

Smith said his young team does “some good things, just not enough good things.”

Ian Smith finished the double header 4-for-7 and Alex McClain was 3-for-5.

Coupeville (1-10, 0-7) has a nonleague game at Friday Harbor Friday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m. and then goes to Lakewood (9-1, 8-1) Saturday at 1.
