As Oak Harbor competes in the District 1, 3A girls soccer tournament, Addisen Boyer reached a milestone.
A senior and four-year varsity player, Boyer scored her 100th and 101st goals of her career during the Wildcats 3-2 victory against Shorecrest in their first game of the district tournament.
“I love the team atmosphere. It’s been pretty positive out here,” Boyer said about the game against Shorecrest.
Both of her goals took place in the first half. The first came from the top of the box on an assist from teammate Maddie Mays. Boyer’s second goal took place later in the half on a break away.
Boyer has been playing soccer since she was six years old. She also plays on a club team in Seattle and will be attending the University of California Davis to play soccer. “I just love the game.”
She added that the season has been special because she is playing with her sister, Calleigh, who is a sophomore and switched from volleyball to soccer this year.
“She is a leader on and off the field,” Oak Harbor girls soccer coach Mike Lonborg said about Addisen Boyer.
He added she has a good work ethic and is one of the captains on the team.
Boyer scored two more goals during the game Tuesday against Sedro-Woolley, where she scored two more goals. Her 103 career goals is a school record, which was previously held by Chalise Baysa, who scored 68 goals from 1994-1997, Lonborg said.
Concerning Oak Harbor’s win against Shorecrest, who placed second in the 2023 state tournament, Lonborg said if the two teams had played 10 times, the results would have been split. “Shorecrest is a really good team. We’re fortunate it was a home game.”
Oak Harbor traveled to Shoreline to compete against Sedro-Woolley Nov. 5. The Wildcats won 5-1. Lonborg said Oak Harbor played Sedro-Woolley earlier in the season (4-1 win, Sept. 17). During the playoff game, Oak Harbor scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.
The Wildcats play Shorewood in the district finals that takes place 2 p.m. Saturday at Shoreline Stadium. Shorewood competes in the Wesco Conference and has an overall record of 13-3.
“They’re a pretty solid team. It should be a pretty good game,” Boyer said.
She added Oak Harbor’s goals for the season are to win the district championship and make it deeper into the state playoffs. Last year, the Wildcats were eliminated from the state playoffs after winning one game.
Tuesday’s victory against Sedro-Woolley assures Oak Harbor a spot in the state playoffs. Lonborg said a seeding committee will meet Sunday evening. He noted that with Oak Harbor ranked fourth in the polls, the Wildcats have a good chance of hosting a game in the state tournament.
