The Mount Vernon High School boys basketball team rocked Oak Harbor early on the way to a 70-36 win over the visiting Wildcats Friday, Dec. 27.
The contest was the final non-league game for Oak Harbor, which saw its record dip to 1-7 (0-2 in Wesco play).
Mount Vernon improved to 5-3.
The Wildcats host Edmonds-Woodway (0-2, 2-4) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3.
Mount Vernon’s Liam Johnston popped in a trio of three-pointers in the first quarter as the Bulldogs raced to an 18-5 lead. The advantage improved to 41-11 at halftime.
Mount Vernon outscored Oak Harbor by only 4 points in the second half and led 56-26 after three quarters.
Gage McLeod scored half of Oak Harbor’s points in the game, netting 18 with the help four three-pointers.
Matt Kelley had 6 points, Brock Boyer 5, Josh Pendleton 3, Kenneth Tofah 2, Will Rankin 1 and Garrett Levell 1.
Eleven Bulldogs scored, led by Johnson with 14, all in the first half.
