Getting a little revenge along the way, the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team clinched the Wesco 3A North title with a 52-20 win at Everett Tuesday, Jan. 22.

It was only fitting Oak Harbor (3-0, 14-1) wrap up the crown by beating Everett, the team that edged the Wildcats each of the past two seasons for the league championship.

The Wildcats finish up the regular and conference season at Marysville Getchell (0-3, 3-11) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.

The subregional tournament is Feb. 1 and 2 in Stanwood.

The Everett match opened at 195 pounds and Jeremy Alonzo got the Wildcats going with a 10-5 win. Carl Meders (220 pounds), coming off an injury, quickly got back into form with a fall (3:57).

Pins by Tyler Adamson (285; :54) and Christian Bertram (106; 1:36) upped the Oak Harbor lead to 21-0.

After Becca Holloman (113; 7-0) and Desiree Dillaman (120; fall, 1:54) lost, Oak Harbor ran off three more wins. Jeremy Vester (126) won 11-1 and Jahleel Vester (132; 3:46) and Jacob Fitzgerald (138; 5:45) won by falls.

Cody Fakkema, who usually wrestles at 132, moved up to 145 to fill in for an ill Mark Johnston and lost 17-2 to Jessie Lopez, the defending state champion and a three-time state placer.

Kekai Tarrant (152) won 14-3, Josh Crebbin (160) won by a fall (1:25) and C.J. Shavers (170) won 19-11. Jon Laningham (182) was pinned (3:47).
