The Oak Harbor High School volleyball team did what it “should have” earlier this week; tonight (Thursday, Oct. 20) it must do what it “needs to.”

The Wildcats (7-2, 8-4) won 3-1 over Marysville Getchell (1-8, 1-10) Tuesday, Oct. 18, in a game it was expected the win. Tonight, Oak Harbor hosts Glacier Peak, which is tied with Oak Harbor for second in the Wesco standings with two matches left, at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats and Grizzlies are both slated to host the first round of the district tournament, and if the two teams end up in the same bracket, the higher seed will play at home.

A win tonight will guarantee the Wildcats a district home match. Oak Harbor won at Glacier Peak 3-2 Sept. 20.

Coach Kerri Molitor said, “We know it will be a tough, but we are confident that we will pull together to make it a good one.”

In the victory over Marysville Getchell, Oak Harbor won 25-6, 25-16, 22-25, 25-14.

After the easy win in the first set, the Wildcats made some passing and hitting errors in the second game, Molitor said, allowing the Chargers to hang around.

Molitor switched her lineup in game four, and “the girls didn’t perform well with the change.” She added, “Our errors let Getchell back into the match.”

Molitor said, “The girls were happy with the win, but disappointed with the performance.”

Taylor Nienhuis had 25 assists and three aces; Roshel Muzzall collected 12 kills, four aces and three blocks; Janine DeGuzman recorded eight kills and 13 digs; and Kayleigh Harper added six kills, four blocks and four aces.

Oak Harbor closes out the regular season at Everett (3-6, 6-6) Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.; district begins Monday, Oct. 31.
