Cedarcrest squeaked out a 3-1 win over the visiting Coupeville volleyball team Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The Red Wolves (2-0) won 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 in four tightly contested games.
Coupeville coach Toni Crebbin said the teams traded leads throughout each set except in Coupeville’s 25-20 win when the Wolves jumped out early and held a five-point lead most of the game.
Crebbin said her team is “coming along,” and she was “pleased that we hung in there each game.”
The Wolves’ passing was “a little off,” according to Crebbin, and the team’s “communication and defense were down.”
The match’s highlight was a laser spike by freshman Hailey Hammer, who had a break-out game, according to Crebbin. Hammer aided the defense by “getting her hand on” a number of Cedarcrest attacks.
Bessie Walstad led the offense with eight kills and the defense with two stuff blocks.
Ali Trumbull added five kills and four aces.
Coupeville (0-2) opens at home Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. against state-power King’s (2-0).
