Not only did the Wolves win the non-tumbling division, they qualified for the state championships at Everett’s Comcast Arena Jan. 22.

Coupeville coach Sylvia Arnold said, “Went down there to compete, and when they announced the results, we were thrilled to find out that we qualified for state.”

After taking a few years off from competition, this year’s upperclassmen, Arnold said, wanted to give it another try.

She said, “The kids worked hard, getting up at 6 a.m. They practiced so much, I am really proud of them.”

Arnold said the team got a boost from former Oak Harbor cheer coach Pam Headridge. Headridge, one of the state’s most respected and successful coaches, “encouraged and helped us,” Arnold said.
