The Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team was a collection of Cool ‘Cats this weekend, and, in this case, that wasn’t a good thing.
The Wildcat shooters were in a deep freeze in a pair of losses. First, Oak Harbor fell 67-45 to visiting Stanwood Friday, Dec. 13, in the league opener, then the Wildcats went to Bellingham where it lost 42-31 to Squalicum Saturday in a nonleague game.
The first half was particularly icy for Oak Harbor in both games, shooting only 20 percent (5-for-25) in the Stanwood loss and a frigid 12 percent (3-for-25) at Squalicum.
Stanwood (1-0, 3-1), the defending Wesco 3A North champion, blitzed Oak Harbor 23-11 in the first quarter and led 37-18 at the break. Unlike the  Wildcats, the Spartans shot well, 43 percent, over the first two quarters.
The lead grew to 49-27 after three periods.
Annie Leete recorded a double-double for Oak Harbor, pouring in 22 points and snaring 15 rebounds.
Deja Bunch scored seven points, AnnaBelle Whitefoot five, Liz Lym four, Jinai Guzman three, Hayley Lundstrom three and Brook Peplinski one.
Natalie Fiallos, Lundstrom and Peplinski had five rebounds each, and Fiallos recorded three assists.
Oak Harbor, which finished the game shooting 27 percent, also struggled at the line, making only six of 20 free throws (30 percent).
The Spartans were led by Haley Strowbridge with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The poor shooting night at Squalicum was compounded by Leete’s foul trouble. Leete, the Wildcats’ leading scorer on year, played just over half the game and scored only three points.
The Storm didn’t shoot particularly well either, but 30 percent was good enough to outscore Oak Harbor 13-4 in each of the first two quarters for a 26-8 halftime lead.
The Wildcats “heated up” to 22 percent in the second half and outscored Squalicum 12-9 in the third period and 11-7 in the fourth, but the first-half shooting misery was too much to overcome.
Eight different Wildcats scored but none more than Bunch’s six points. Bryn Langrock, Guzman and Lundstrom tallied five each, Fiallos three, Lym two and Whitefoot two.
Oak Harbor committed 27 turnovers to the Storms’ 22 and was out-rebounded 47-40.
Lundstrom collected nine boards and Fiallos three assists.
Meghan Lowry had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Squalicum (3-2). 
Oak Harbor (0-1, 0-4) goes to fourth-ranked Everett (0-0, 4-0) at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 18.
