Big plays on both sides of the ball lifted the Oak Harbor Cougars of the midget division of the North Cascade Youth Football League to a 16-14 win over Anacortes in the quarterfinals of the league tournament Saturday, Oct. 26, at Fort Nugent Field.

The win sets up a rematch with No. 1 seed Sedro-Woolley in the semifinals. The Cougars (7-2) handed Sedro-Woolley (8-1) its only loss of the season, 13-12, when the two teams met in the regular season.

Oak Harbor scored first in the Anacortes game when Cameron Asinsin connected with Kaito White on a 60-yard pass play in the first quarter. Deshaun Hills kicked the extra point, making it 8-0.  (In the midget division, PAT kicks are worth two points.)

Anacortes countered with a TD but missed the extra point, and then had a chance to take the lead just before halftime but was turned back by a Cougar goal-line stand.

Dylan Stubbs III ended the threat with an interception of a tipped pass.

Late in the third quarter, Anacortes scored to go up 12-8.

The Cougar offense again struck from long distance when Brenden Andersen raced 70 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Hills tacked on another two points, and Oak Harbor led 16-12.

Anacortes threatened late in the game, but an interception by Asinsin sealed the win for the Cougars.
