Picking up its first win of the season, the Coupeville High School boys basketball team throttled visiting Darrington 72-41 Friday, Dec. 5.
The glow of the win faded Saturday afternoon when the Wolves fell 80-50 at home to Bellevue Christian.
Coupeville (1-3) travels to Deming to meet Mount Baker (0-2) at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, finishing a run of five games in eight days.
Undersized Darrington hung with Coupeville for one quarter, trailing 16-11 after the first eight minutes.
Seven different Wolves scored as Coupeville rolled the Loggers 19-7 in the second period to go ahead 35-18 at halftime.
Joel Walstad scored seven points and Dalton Martin and Aaron Curtin four each as Coupeville pushed its lead to 54-32 after three periods.
Each Coupeville player scored in the game. Martin, returning to the lineup after an injury, finished with 14 points, as did Walstad and Risen Johnson.
Curtin, Wiley Hesselgrave and Aaron Trumbull scored six points, C.J. Smith four, Ryan Griggs four, Matt Shank three and Gabe Wynn one.

“It was good for the boys to get a win,” coach Anthony Smith said.
“The game was like a track meet. We were clicking on all cylinders.”
Smith said everyone “played tough” and that the Wolves received good guard play from Martin, Johnson and Walstad.
Bellevue Christian’s crisp passing dissected the Coupeville defense like “a surgeon,” Smith said.
The Wolves were also hurt by the Vikings’ offensive rebounds, Smith said, as Bellevue Christian racked up a handful of second-chance points in the first half.
The Wolves scored the game’s first two baskets, then the Vikings slowing pulled away, leading 23-15, 38-27 and 59-34 at the quarters.
Curtin and Hesselgrave each scored 13 points for the Wolves. Trumbull added eight, Walstad and Griggs five, Martin three, Johnson two and Smith one.
BC’s Joe Lampkin, a 6-6 post, controlled the inside for 18 points; point guard David Postma finished with 13.
