Coupeville drops finale at Interlake / Football

The Coupeville High School football team closed out the 2019 season with a 36-7 loss at Bellevue’s Interlake Friday, Nov. 1.

Despite the loss, the Wolves finished the year with a 5-4 record, their first winning season since 2005.

Coupeville, low in participants and experience, played an independent schedule this fall, scheduling schools with similar issues.

While Interlake (2-7) has had problems chalking up wins the past few years, it is still a 3A school with four times as many students as Coupeville.

The scrappy Wolves, who were missing several starters and lost several more key players (leading rusher Andrew Martin, leading receiver Sean Toomey-Stout and lineman Gabe Shaw) during the game, hung with the Saints until the middle of the third quarter.

Dakota Eck put Coupeville on the board with a 31-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Freshmen Scott Hilborn and Joven Light led the defense with interceptions.
