Coupeville High School graduate Makana Stone, a sophomore on the Whitman College women’s basketball team, was named to the All-Northwest Conference first team this week.
Stone twice received the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week award this season, was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Whitworth Holiday Classic in December and was picked for the all-tournament team for the Ramada at the Spokane Airport Whit Classic in November.
Stone’s teammate, senior Casey Poe, was named the Northwest Conference’s Most Valuable Player for 2017-18.
Stone is second on the team and 10th in the conference in scoring (12.5 points per game) and first on the team and fifth in the conference in rebounds (187). She also owns the conference’s fourth-best field goal percentage (52.3).
Whitman (22-4, 14-2), ranked 13th in Division III, finished second in the conference and is waiting to here if it will be selected for the postseason.
