Coupeville takes part in PA Invitational | Track

It was a day of personal bests for the Coupeville High School track team at the 13-team Port Angeles Invitational Saturday, March 19.

The Coupeville girls finished seventh behind six 2A schools with 52 points. Sequim won with 110.

The Wolves boys were 11th with 25.5 points; North Kitsap topped the field with 119.

Each school was allowed only one athlete in each final event; the rest competed in JV heats.

Sylvia Hurlburt led the Coupeville girls by placing second in the 200 (28.44) and fourth in the 100 (13.67).

Skylar Lawrence (third, discus, 82-04; fourth, shot put, 28-07.75), Lauren Grove (fourth, long jump, 13-09.25; fourth, triple jump, 28-06), and Lauren Bayne (fifth, 300 hurdles, 1:03.16; seventh, high jump, 4-02) each placed in two events.

Lindsey Roberts (third, 100 hurdles, 17.76), Abby Parker (sixth, 1,500, 6:15.98) and Allison Wenzel (sixth, javelin, 79) also placed.

Mitchell Carroll recorded the best finish for the boys, finishing third in the triple jump (35-01).

The Wolves picked up three fifth places: Jacob Smith (100, 11.87), Connor Thompson (high jump, 5-02) and the 4×100 relay team (Gabe Eck, Jordan Ford, Jared Helmstadter, Smith; 46.75).

Helmstadter (sixth, 200, 24.85), Danny Conlisk (seventh, 1,500, 4:56.75), Chris Battaglia (seventh, discus, 102-07), Dominic Dausey (eighth, shot, 32-10.75), Grey Rische (ninth, javelin, 116-09) and Jacob Martin (ninth, long jump, 17-02.75) also competed in the finals.

Coupeville will join Sequim and Olympic at North Kitsap High School for a 3:30 p.m. meet Thursday, March 24.
