The Coupeville High School soccer team settled for a 2-2 tie at Granite Falls Friday, May 2.

“(It) was a bit of a let down for us,” coach Kyle Nelson said in regard to tie with the winless Tigers (0-11.-2, 0-13-2).

The Wolves defeated Granite Falls 4-1 April 11.

“We seemed to have a hard time adjusting to their turf field and getting a good foot on the ball,” Nelson said.

Coupeville received goals from Abraham Leyva Elenes and Sean Donley and an assist from Zane Bundy.

Coupeville (4-8-1, 5-8-2) wraps up the regular season when King’s (9-3-1, 10-4-1) visits at 6 p.m. Monday, May 5.

The Wolves also begin district tournament play this week.

Generally only the top two 1A schools from the Cascade Conference advance to the postseason, and the Wolves will finish third behind South Whidbey and King’s.

However, since Coupeville defeated Friday Harbor in their series this season, the Wolves will take the Wolverine’s spot as the No. 6 seed out of the Northwest Conference.

Coupeville plays at top-seeded Mount Baker (4-7-1, 5-10-1) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in a loser-out match.

“It is a great opportunity for us,” Nelson said. “From everything I can find about Mount Baker, we should match up well with them.”

If Coupeville wins, it will qualify for tri-district and continue playing at district to determine seeding.

That second district game will be at either Meridian (3-9, 4-11), King’s or South Whidbey (8-3-2, 10-3-2) at 4 p.m. Friday, May 9.
