Edmonds-Woodway blanked the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 11, on the Wildcats’ court.
It was an important win for the Warriors, who took the match 28-26, 25-14, 25-21. Five Wesco teams, including E-W (3-5, 4-6) and Oak Harbor (2-5, 3-6), are bunched together in the league standings with similar records with five matches remaining. Two of the group is likely to miss out of the playoffs.
Oak Harbor journeys to Mountlake Terrace (2-6, 3-7) for a 5:15 p.m. match Thursday, Oct. 13.
The first game of the Edmonds-Woodway/Oak Harbor match was close. The Wildcats led 12-11, and up to that point, neither team held a lead greater than one. The Warriors then surged ahead 16-12.
Oak Harbor cut the deficit to one, 22-21, and eventually tied the score several times but never led. E-W never led by more than one from there until the final score.
The Warriors cruised to the second set win, but Oak Harbor grabbed back the momentum by going up 8-4 in the third game. Edmonds-Woodway went on a 7-0 run to lead 11-8.
The Wildcats chipped away and tied the game at 19 but never regained the lead.
Oak Harbor couldn’t muster much offense in the match. Hailee Blau, with 11 kills, was the only Wildcat who registered more than a couple put-aways. Andrea Ruben had 19 assists.
