The father-son duo of Roger and Doug Pierce captured the two-person best ball tournament at the Whidbey Golf Club Saturday, April 26.
The Pierce pair is familiar with the winner’s circle, having won the WGC Men’s Invitational preliminary horse race event five times. Doug Pierce, the defending Invitational champion, also won two of the four closest-to the-pin contests Saturday, landing 5-feet, 6-inches from the pin on hole 7 and 18 inches from the pin on 13. In addition, he was one of the eight deuce pot winners.
The Pierces shot 69 to defeat runners up Brian Wasinger and Arik Dahlen by three strokes in flight 1.
The top net score in flight 1 of 63 was earned by Steve and Todd Robinson; Gene Whitley and Don Beeson shot 64.
In flight 2, Chuck Krieg and Marv Seelye combined for a gross of 71; Tom Belew and Tom King finished at 75.
Tying for first in flight 2 net were Leo Troha/Vince Hagel and Dave Holmly/Dave Wichers at 61.
Wasinger was closest to the pin on No. 17 at 10-feet, 3-inches; and Pat Ford was at 4 feet on No. 1.
Other deuce pot winners were Ryan Elvebak (two), Eddie Page, Whitley, Greg Hamming, Rick Nunn, Dave Acton and Ford.
