Papa Murphy’s Pizza is offering an Oak Harbor High School football fan a chance to channel his or her inner Lou Groza and kick a 35-yard field goal and win $1,000.
Being a big football fan and wanting to help the Oak Harbor Wildcat team raise money, Josh Rowley of Oak Harbor’s Papa Murphy’s Pizza came up with the fund-raising idea and is sponsoring the kick for cash.
The drawing will be held at the Oak Harbor homecoming game Friday, Oct. 28, and the raffle winner will take home two free pizzas a month for a year and a chance to boot the field goal after the game and win $1,000.
Rowley said if the ticket holder wishes, he can have OHHS place-kicker Peter Franssen attempt the kick and win $500.
Rowley said there is competition each year between owners to see who can most help schools with fundraising, and he is always on the lookout for unique ways to accomplish the task.
He cleared the idea with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, and he talked to Franssen and his parents to see if the Wildcat kicker would be willing to step in if asked.
Tickets have been sold at each home football game this fall, and sellers will go through the crowd homecoming night to finish-up sales.
Just over 300 tickets have been sold so far.
All of the proceeds will go to the Oak Harbor High School football program.
