The Ferndale High School softball team defeated host Oak Harbor 27-0 in five innings Monday, April 20.

The Golden Eagles (9-1) mixed 23 hits with eight walks and six errors to cruise by the Wildcats.

With four games in five days this week, Oak Harbor coach Todd Showalter started a junior varsity pitcher against Ferndale, a nonleague opponent, hoping to rest his regular pitchers for the three conference games that followed.

The JV pitcher lasted only one-third of an inning as Ferndale piled up 10 first-inning runs.

Oak Harbor had only one hit in the game, a first-inning single by Tricia Sarns.

The Wildcats (1-7, 1-10) go to Glacier Peak (3-4, 4-6) Tuesday, April 21, and then host Edmonds-Woodway (5-4, 6-5) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 22.
