The Oak Harbor baseball team cut down the tying run at the plate on the game’s final play to win 6-5 at Everett Friday, April 13.

The Seagulls loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh. A grounder up the middle was knocked down by Oak Harbor shortstop Grant Schroeder as one run scored. He flipped the ball to second baseman Andrew Snavely who threw to catcher Sam Glavick to nail Reece Hoiby trying the score the tying run from second. The tag ended the game and the Wildcats earned the two-game sweep of the Seagulls.

Most of the game’s offense came early when Oak Harbor started with three runs in the first and Everett countered with two.

Oak Harbor’s Schroeder, Mitch Mertins and Jack Richter opened the game with singles to get one run. RBI groundouts by Glavick and David Kusnick scored Mertins and Richter.

The Wildcats added a run in the second when Mike Maletto singled, was bunted to second by Nate Stanford and scored on Schroeder’s single.

Everett tied the game with two runs in the fifth, then Oak Harbor when up 6-4 in the sixth. Kusnick and Austyn Walker started things with walks. Kusnick eventually scored on a wild pitch, and Anthony Stewart singled in Walker.

Glavick had the only other Oak Harbor hit.

Schroeder started on the mound and went four-and-two-thirds innings, giving up six hits, no walks and four runs (three earned).

Zach Zimmer finished the game and had four strikeouts while yielding two hits, a walk, a hit batter and two runs (zero earned).

Oak Harbor (4-6, 6-7) plays Lynnwood (3-5, 4-8) at home at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, and then goes to Lynnwood Wednesday.
