Five North Whidbey Aquatic Club members finished in the top 24 at the Washington Open in Federal Way Jan. 20 to 23 against teams from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California and British Columbia.
As a team, the NWAC finished 18th out of 38 with 148 points. The event was won by Mount Hood Aquatics with 742.5 points.
Making it back for the final evening session (top 24) for NWAC were Ciara Hu, Price Hu, Jacob Jepsen, Josh Jepsen and Cole Weinstein.
Price Hu earned the team’s top performance, placing fourth in the senior men’s 200 butterfly (1:56.53).
Ciara Hu was fifth in the senior women’s 200 fly (2:10.63). She also set a team record in the 400 individual medley (4:37.47) while placing 12th.
Jacob Jepsen’s best finish came in the senior men’s 1,650 free (17:22.06) where placed 10th, one spot ahead of Weinstein (17:30.19). Josh Jepsen was 14th in the senior men’s 200 breaststroke (2:23:28).
The top relay effort came in the 800 free where the Jepsens, Price Hu and Weinstein finished seventh (7:43.39).
Bon Jarik Bainco, Tori Nickerson and Akasha Trisler also represented NWAC in the senior class.
Ethan and Harrison Tack each recorded 100 percent relay personal records.
NWAC Swimmer of the Meet was Weinstein who reached the finals in two events, set new AGS cuts in the 500 free (5:05.28) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.61), scored in the mile with an evenly paced 17:30.19 (19-second drop) and
produced strong relay efforts, including a three-second drop (54.55) leading off the 400 free.
NWAC next competes at the Bellingham Challenge Feb. 5 and 6, where it will field a team of 70.
The North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.
Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.
The first two weeks are free.
