Lauren Bayne and Paris Quinn of the Island Flyers each earned a first-place medal at the Washington Association of Tumbling and Trampoline Championships in Renton April 6.

Four other Flyers from the Leaps and Bounds Dance and Tumbling Center in Oak Harbor also finished among the top five in individual events.

In addition to the tumbling and trampoline state finals, the Leaps and Bounds competitive and performance dance team recently wrapped up its season.

Bayne, 13 and a seventh grader at Coupeville Middle School, won the Level 6, Division 13-14 trampoline title.

Bayne competed at state three other times and previously won two titles. She said this year’s title wasn’t unexpected because she believed she was the favorite entering the meet.

Quinn, 11 and a fifth grader at Broad View Elementary in Oak Harbor, took first in Level 4, Division 11-12 tumbling in her first state competition.

She said she was nervous going in and hoping for a top-three finish.

Bayne added a second place in Level 6, 13-14 double mini and a fourth in Level 5, 13-14 tumbling. Quinn also placed fourth in Level 4, 11-12 trampoline and fifth in Level 5, 11-12 double mini.

Kaia Crebbin (Level 4, 9-10 double mini) and Lilly Hammitt (Level 6, 11-12 double mini) both earned second-place honors.

Third: Crebbin, Level 4, 9-10 trampoline; Natalie Hahn, Level 5, 11-12 trampoline,  (tie) Level 5, 11-12 double mini, and Level 4, 11-12 tumbling; Kelly Gruenwald, (tie) Level 5, 11-12 double mini, and Level 5, 11-12 tumbling.

Fourth: Hammitt, (tie) Level 5, 11-12 trampoline.

Fifth: Hammitt, Level 5, 11-12 tumbling.

The Leaps and Bounds competitive and performance dance team, En Avant Dance Company, took part in two events.

At the Hollywood Dance Experience, the team of Lyndsay Loomis, Shayla Emmett, Alexander Brown, Grace Oman, Ysa Duenas and Gwenlynn Brown earned a platinum rating in the group dance novelty category performed to “Pink Panther.” Selistino Rendon was choreography director and Kelli Spence technical director.

The group received a special judges recognition for extreme personality.

Rendon choreographed as golds were captured by the duo of Emmett and Alexander Brown in the lyrical category for “Soldier of Love,” and by Duenas in a solo in the jazz category for “Firestorm.”

For her efforts, Duenas received a scholarship for the 8-12 age group.

At the Dupree Dance Expo, the company earned three golds. One by the group in lyrical for “Imaginary Friends” choreographed by Spence. The performance also received a special judges award for continuous movement.

Another by the Emmett/Brown duo in lyrical for “1,000 Years” choreographed by Spence.

The third came in the dance category for “Why do you do wrong?” choreographed by Rendon and performed by Loomis, Alexander Brown, Oman and Duenas.

A silver was earned by Duenas for her “Firestorm” jazz solo.

Scholarships went to Oman for beginner tap and Luc Duenas for the 4-7 age group.
