Flyers place well at state meet

Oak Harbor's own Moving and Grooving Island Flyers Tumbling and Trampoline team had a great outing at the Washington T&T state meet Saturday, April 11, in Renton.

Oak Harbor’s own Moving and Grooving Island Flyers Tumbling and Trampoline team had a great outing at the Washington T&T state meet Saturday, April 11, in Renton.

As a team, the Island Flyers finished second in tumbling, fourth in trampoline and fifth in double mini.

Individually, all seven team members placed in the top seven in each of their respective events.

Amelia Berner and Kelly Gruenwald were both double gold medalists. Berner won the trampoline and double mini events and Greunwald placed first in double mini and tumbling.

Berner, Juliet Aspery, Lauren Aspery, Hannah Barnes and Amaya Rittierodt all qualified to compete in the National Championships sechduled for San Jose, Calif., in June. To qualify for the nationals, competitors must attain a specified score in Level 5 or higher at a state meet.

Lauren Aspery — 3. Level 5 trampoline, 7. Level 5 double mini, 2. Level 4 tumbling.

Hannah Barnes — 3. Level 4 trampoline, 3. Level 5 double mini, 2. Level 4 tumbling.

Amaya Rittierodt — 2. Level 3 trampoline, 3. Level 4 double mini, 2. Level 5 tumbling.

Kelly Gruenwald — 4. Level 3 trampoline, 1. Level 3 double mini, 1. Level 3 tumbling.

Lilly Hammitt — 2. Level 3 trampoline, 3. Level 3 double mini, 2. Level 3 tumbling.
