A pair of former Oak Harbor High School runners were among the leaders in the Fifth Annual Race the Reserve Saturday, Aug. 1, in Coupeville.
Race the Reserve included three runs: a half marathon, a 10K and a 5K.
In the half marathon, the main event, 2014 Oak Harbor graduate Alexandra Laiblin, 19, was the top female finisher and third overall. Laiblin, who now runs for Western Washington University, cruised the course in 1:34:37.6.
Benjamin Clark, 23, of Moscow, Idaho, won the race, which included 128 runners, in 1:30:32.
Oak Harbor’s Mike Crebbin was the first finisher among Whidbey males, running fourth overall in 1:36:41.3.
In the 5K, Jonalynn Horn, 18, a 2015 Oak Harbor High School graduate, was first among the women (18:52.6) and second overall to Redmond’s Andy Dunn, 52 (17:40.2).
After Dunn, youngsters ruled the field of 104. The next six finishers are all younger than 19, and Coupeville’s Samuel Wynn, 12, was first among local males and fifth overall in 21:54.1.
Sammamish’s Brian Comer, 21, won the 10K over 109 other runners in 36.52.1.

Race the Reserve is the primary fundraiser for the Parents of the Coupeville High School Class of 2016; the group provides safe and sober CHS graduation activities.
This year’s race attracted the largest turnout for the event with 342 finishers and nearly 400 registered, according to volunteer Deb Savalza.
