“Nikki Gamble had a banner day Saturday. Gamble set meet records in the 3,200 meters and the mile as she sparked the Oak Harbor girls’ team to first place at the Shelton Invitational.Oak Harbor finished with 49 points, topping host Shelton by two.Gamble, a junior, won the Special Millennium Mile in 4:17.50, breaking the meet record by almost four seconds. She captured the 3,200 in 11:24.33.Junior Molly Bull, who has a knack for saving her best jumps for last, won the long jump with a new meet record of 17 feet, 1 inch. And, yes, the leap came on Bull’s last attempt.Bull came close to winning the 800, getting nipped at the finish line by Onalaska’s Brittany Hancock. The latter won in 2:20.96, Bull was second in 2:21.0.Oak Harbor captured the team title when the 1,600 relay team of Gamble, Bull, Lesley TePaske, and Sheena Darling took second, holding off Steilacoom. The Wildcats were clocked in 4:11.27. Shelton won the race in 4:08.23.Darling placed fifth in the 300 low hurdles at 49.45, and TePaske equaled her school record in the pole vault by placing sixth at 8-6.The Oak Harbor boys’ team had a strong showing, taking third with 49 1/2 points. Lakes, the defending 3-A state champion, was first with 71 points and Inglemoor, a 4-A Kingco Conference team, was second with 56. Lakes and Inglemoor each had more competitors in the meet than Oak Harbor.Scott Sebens had two victories. He won the Special Millennium Mile in 4:18.97, a personal best, and captured the 800 in 1:58.23.Jeremy Morgan took second in the 400 with a time of 51.43, and ran on the 1,600 relay, which took second. Brandon Hill, Adam Shelly, and Jashton Cavitt completed the 1,600 team, which had its best race of the season at 3:26.86 and was nipped by Lakes by 7/100ths of a second.Hurdler Stefan Kulpa was third in the 300 hurdles in 41.92 and sixth in the 110 hurdles in 15.90.
