Oak Harbor High School’s Isabel Garcia won three of four matches to place third in the 105-pound class at the Lady Wolfpack Invitational wrestling tournament at Jackson High School in Mill Creek Saturday, Jan. 31.
Although the Wildcats sent only five varsity wrestlers to the tournament, they placed 22nd out of 44 teams (and third among nine Wesco schools) with 24.5 points.
Mount Baker won the team title with 200.5 points.
Caitlin Woodworth was the only other Wildcat to place, finishing seventh at 140 pounds.
Garcia won twice by pins before losing by a fall in the semifinals to last year’s state runner up and eventual champion Haley Franich from Puyallup.
Garcia then beat Gabrella Mata of Mount Baker 8-4 in the match for third.
Woodworth “made a great move” in her first-round match, according to coach Larry Falcon, to win 7-2, then lost in the second round.
She bounced back to win 6-4, then lost 8-4 to finish seventh.
Meredith Bain (170) rolled to a 12-1 win in round one and then lost to the top seed and champion Kacie Moorehouse of Issaquah and in the consolation bracket.
Alexia Mobley (115) and Faith Haley (135) each dropped both their matches.
In JV pigtail action, Patrice Woodworth (130) split two matches.
