Four Oak Harbor golfers — two boys and two girls — qualified for the state tournament with strong showings at the Northwest District 3A meet this week.
Judd Ford earned his fourth consecutive trip to state by finishing third in the boys district meet at Lake Padden in Bellingham Monday and Tuesday. The senior shot a 79 the first round, then carded a 73 to jump from seventh to third with a total of 152. He placed 19th in last year’s 4A state tournament.
Senior Greg Martin will join Ford at state after rounds of 79 and 81 (160), good for seventh place.
David Bunch qualified for round two at district and finished at 184 (89, 95) and out of the top 13 who earned state berths.
Brennan Emory of Mount Vernon was the district medalist with a 141 (69, 72).
State is at MeadowWood in Spokane May 24 and 25.
Wildcat freshman Annie Leete and senior Millie Goebel placed seventh and eighth and grabbed two of the 16 state berths for girls.
Leete shot rounds of 91 and 86 (177), while Goebel fired rounds of 87 and 91 (178) at Everett’s Legion Memorial Golf Course Monday and Tuesday.
Sasha Olson (104, 100; 204) and Mara Cortez (102, 106; 208) placed 24th and 25th at district.
Whitney Jammerman of Glacier Peak led the field with 149 (76, 73).
The girls 3A state tournament takes place at Spokane’s Liberty Lake May 24 and 25.
