Glacier Peak won a confrontation between Wesco 3A’s two second-place baseball teams 9-5 over Oak Harbor High School in Snohomish Wednesday, April 24.

Oak Harbor, from the North Division, was stung by three errors which allowed the South Division Grizzlies to score six unearned runs and snap Oak Harbor’s eight-game win streak.

Glacier Peak (11-4, 13-5) scored two in the first, then Oak Harbor got one back in the third. With one out, Andrew Snavely singled and then scored on Brent Mertins’ double.

The Grizzlies added two in the third with the help of two errors, then cemented the game with four unearned runs in the fourth.

Oak Harbor’s offense struggled until the seventh when it scored four runs. Mike Maletto walked, Cory Cameron singled and Teddy Peterschmidt singled in a run. Anthony Stewart walked, a run scored on an error and two more were plated by Grant Schroeder’s single.

The win helped Glacier Peak zero in on a home game in the first round of the playoffs and hurt Oak Harbor’s (9-6, 10-8) chances. Ferndale (8-2, 12-6) of the Northwest Conference, could supplant one of the clubs for the second seed if it finishes with a better record.

Oak Harbor plays its final regular season home game at 4 p.m. Monday, April 29, against Shorewood (13-1, 16-1), the state’s top-ranked 3A team.
