Harper receives all-tournament honors as WWU advances

Oak Harbor graduate Kayleigh Harper earned all-tournament honors while helping the Western Washington women’s volleyball team win the NCAA Division II West Regional Championship Dec. 6 in Anchorage.

Harper, a red-shirt freshman, recorded nine blocks in the championship match as Western overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Cal State San Bernardino 21-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23, 16-14.

The Vikings (25-6) qualified for the Elite Eight and will meet Rockhurst (Kansas City, Mo.) in the national quarterfinals Dec. 10 at the University of Tampa.

Harper was also named to the All-West Region second team last week; the only freshman among the 14 selected for all-region honors.
