Defensive miscues continue to haunt the Oak Harbor High School soccer team as it fell 5-0 to Mountlake Terrace Friday, March 15, at Edmonds Stadium.
After a close first half, the Hawks jumped on Wildcat mistakes to pull away.
The two teams battle through a scoreless tie most of the first half. Oak Harbor failed to convert on several good scoring opportunities, then Mountlake Terrace finally broke the scoring drought seconds before the first period ended.
“We played well for the first half,” Oak Harbor coach Jeff Laiblin said, “but 10 minutes into the second half the mistakes continued and we were down 0-4 before we knew it.
“We did continued to get opportunities, including hitting a post with seconds remaining.”
Laiblin added that the loss was tough to take because “none of their goals were of any quality” but a result of “our mistakes.”
“Credit to them, though, for taking advantage of our mistakes,” he added. “Keys for us moving forward are finishing our opportunities and getting healthy.”
Oak Harbor (0-1, 0-3) hosts Cedarcrest (0-1, 0-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.
