For Oak Harbor High School senior Samantha Hines, volleyball won out over track.
Hines signed a letter of intent Wednesday, May 23, to play volleyball at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham.
She had an offer from Pacific Lutheran University to run track, but chose WCC because “volleyball is the sport I can’t live without.”
In addition, Hines said she was attracted to Whatcom “because they care about your academics as well as athletics” and she felt a connection with the staff.
Hines plans on majoring in nursing.
Her high school volleyball coach Kerri Molitor said that Whatcom is getting a versatile player who is “a great athlete” and one who is “committed and gives her all.”
“She is a great leader and has integrity and a strong work ethic,” Molitor added.
Hines played volleyball, track and basketball for Oak Harbor and earned 10 varsity letters.
