Powered by a three-run home run from Alexa Findley, the Oak Harbor High School softball team won 5-1 at Stanwood Friday, April 1.
The Wildcats (1-2, 2-4) scored all five of their runs in the first two innings and then held off the Spartans (1-2, 2-4) to claim their first Wesco North win of the season.
Oak Harbor scored twice in the first inning. Findley opened the game with a walk, was bunted to second by Shea Davis and scored on an error off the bat of Audrey Howard. Tricia Sarns’ base hit scored Howard.
In the second with one out, Kristen Pagala walked and Brooke Wilson singled, setting up Findley’s blast.
That was it for the Oak Harbor offense. The next eight hitters went down in order until Findley singled in the fifth for the Wildcats’ only hit after the second inning.
Meanwhile, Oak Harbor starter Sarns worked out of several minor jams to claim the pitching victory. The only hiccup was a home run by Stanwood’s Teagan Miller in the fourth inning.
The Spartans left eight runners stranded, including five in scoring position.
Oak Harbor turned a double play to stop a Stanwood threat in the first inning.
Sarns gave up seven hits, struck out five and walked none.
“The team came to play; our defense was on point and our offense was alive,” coach Tashina Tosh said. “I’m extremely proud with the way the team played. We are looking and playing like a team.”
The Wildcats head to first-place Maryville-Pilchuck (3-0, 5-1) for a 4 p.m. game Monday, April 4.
