King’s clinched the North Sound Conference volleyball crown by beating Coupeville High School 3-0 Thursday, Oct. 24.
Had the Wolves (7-2, 12-2) won, they would have moved into a tie for first with the second-ranked Knights (9-0, 13-0).
Coupeville will finish second in the league regardless of the outcome of its final conference match. The Wolves play at Sultan (2-7, 6-9) at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28.
“King’s is a very good team and we needed to access a new level of play and couldn’t quite find that gear,” coach Cory Whitmore said. “We passed much better than our previous meeting with them and handled some real tough serves but couldn’t get the ball to the ground on their side often enough.”
“Maya (Toomey-Stout) had a massive game for us; very calm on the pass, took a ton of swings and played all-out in the middle back position digging their widespread attack,” he added.
Toomey-Stout finished with four kills, three digs and two blocks.
Scout Smith added 12 assists, and Zoe Trujillo registered five kills, one more than Hannah Davidson.
The Knights won 25-9, 25-13, 25-15.
