Oak Harbor High School freshman Nick Krantz finished 62th in the 3A state boys golf tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 23 and 24, at Richland’s Columbia Point Golf Course.
Krantz shot an 82 and missed the cut of 77 to advance to the second day of play.
Spencer Tibbits of Fort Vancouver High School earned the state title with a 137 after rounds of 69 and 68.
Redmond High School won the team title. The Wesco North’s Arlington was fifth, Stanwood seventh and Everett 11th. Schools needed to have at least two golfers in the tournament to qualify for team scoring.
Overall, Krantz played “really well,” according to coach David Smith.
Back-to-back birdies weren’t enough to overcome two bad holes, Smith said, in Krantz’s efforts to move on to the second round.
“I am really proud of him,” Smith said. “He has a good mind for golf.”
