All but one swim by Oak Harbor High School athletes at the Western Conference North junior varsity championships Thursday at Marysville-Pilchuck were personal bests.

The meet, also called the “Last Chance Meet,” allows swimmers who have not posted district qualifying times a final opportunity to reach the postseason standards.

Oak Harbor’s Nathan Larsen did just that, slicing seven seconds off his previous best to win the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.4.

The District 1 3A preliminaries start at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. The finals begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for state, which is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20, at the Weyerhaeuser King Country Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Larsen will be joined at district by previous qualifiers Joe Gorman (200 and 500 freestyle), Eric Jensen (50 free and 100 butterfly), Logan Clark (50 and 100 free), Jose Cabigting (200 individual medley and 100 breast) and Cole McCaslin (200 and 500 free).

Oak Harbor’s three relay teams also qualified: 200 free (Clark, Jensen, Andrew Snyder, Gorman); 200 medley (Gorman, Cabigting, Jensen, Clark); and 400 free (Garrett Karney, Quinn Karney, Snyder, McCaslin).

Oak Harbor could also receive wildcat spots into the district meet. In events where there are not enough automatic qualifying times to fill out the field, the best remaining times are considered. These qualifiers have not been announced.
