Nooksack Valley scored four runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and defeat the visiting Coupeville baseball team 6-3 in a district play-in game.

The loss ends the season for the Wolves (3-16); the Pioneers (4-14) move on to district.

Coupeville scored three unearned runs playing small ball and forcing the Pioneers into errors to go up 3-2 heading into the sixth, then Nooksack Valley put the game away with four runs, three earned, to secure the win.

The Wolves mustered only two hits, singles by Morgan Payne and Korbin Korzan.

Coach Willie Smith said pitchers Aaron Curtin, Aaron Trumbull and Brandt Bodamer “did a nice job,” combining for a six-hitter but were victims of poor defense and no offensive support.

Smith said, “We had our opportunities (to score) but couldn’t do it.”

He added, “Carson Risner, making his first varsity start, did a great job catching.”
