Several local athletes took part in the Portland Track Festival at Lewis and Clark College last weekend.
Coupeville’s Tyler King placed 11th (4:17.23) is one of the meet’s signature events, the High School Boys Invitational Mile. Only the nation’s top runners where invited to compete; Elias Gedyon of Loyola of Los Angeles won in 4:08.24.
King ws first among the four Washington state juniors who competed in the race.
Oak Harbor High School’s Adrianna Royal, running for the Federal Way Track Club, won the 2,000 steeplechase in a personal best 7:35.14, finishing 25 seconds ahead of the next competitor.
Royal placed ninth in the open 800 (2:28.69) in a field that included collegiate runners.
She also joined OHHS teammate Allison Duvenez on the FWTC distance medley relay team and finished second (12:30).
Duvenez ran the 400 leg (62) and Royal the 1,200 (3:56).
King’s older brother Kyle, who now attends Eastern Washington University, placed fifth in the open 5,000 (13:39.34).
