Oak Harbor and Coupeville high school fall athletes jump into post- season play this week.

Cross Country

The Oak Harbor cross country teams head to South Whidbey High School Saturday, Oct. 30, for the district 3A meet in hopes of capturing a berth in the state meet.

The girls, currently ranked eighth in the state coaches’ poll, run at 12:10 p.m. in the 11-team race.

The Wildcats placed third in the 4A district meet last fall and 15th at state.

The Oak Harbor boys take to the course at 2 p.m.

The top three clubs and 15 individuals move on to state.

Coupeville’s Tyler King qualified for Saturday’s 1A tri-district meet at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood, south Tacoma.

King, who is one of the favorites to win the state title, races at 12:30 p.m. The top 25 will advance to state.

Volleyball

Coupeville begins its journey to state at the district tournament at Lynden Christian Saturday at 11 p.m. The Wolves (5-10) challenge Meridian (4-9) in a loser-out match. The winner earns a shot at Lynden Christian (10-3) in the double-elimination section of the tournament.

Friday Harbor (4-9) and Nooksack Valley (6-8) square off in the other loser-out match. The winner will meet King’s (13-0).

The winners of the second round games will battle for the sub-district title and to determine the top two seeds heading into tri-district.

The losers of the second round games will face off for the third and final berth, the No. 3 seed, to tri-district.

Tri-district is Nov. 6 at King’s.

Oak Harbor (10-4) opens district at home against Glacier Peak (6-8) Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. Everett (5-5, 8-6) and Ferndale (9-4) will also meet in Oak Harbor Nov. 3. At 7 p.m. the winners and losers will pair up for round two in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament.

Also Nov. 3, Mount Vernon (7-6), Shorewood (9-5), Mountlake Terrace (4-10) and Meadowdale will compete at Glacier Peak in the other side of the bracket.

District will conclude Saturday, Nov. 6, at Glacier Peak. The top three teams will advance to the state tournament.

Football

Coupeville goes to Nocksack Valley tonight, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. for a sub-district play-in game. If the Wolves win, they play a team from the West Central District Nov. 5 or 6 at a site and time to be determined.

Oak Harbor was eliminated from playoff contention Thursday night and will play a nonleague cross-over game at Monroe next Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.

Swim

The Oak Harbor swim team and Coupeville’s Rachel Weinstein journey to Anacortes Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5 and 6, for the district 3A and 2A meets. (2A is the smallest classification for swimming, so 1A swimmers, such as Weinstein, compete in that classification.)

The top three individuals in each event in 3A and the top two in 2A qualify for the state meet.

Soccer

The Coupeville girls soccer team dropped its play-in match with Meridian 2-0 Wednesday and was eliminated. Oak Harbor’s soccer team did not qualify for the playoffs.
