Two strong offensive plays carried the Marysville-Pilchuck soccer team to a 3-0 win over visiting Oak Harbor Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg said the Wildcats played well, giving up goals on through balls in the 24th and 34th minutes on well-executed plays by the Tomahawks.

“Both were nice plays; no real breakdowns by the defense,” Lonborg said. “M-P just made great plays.”

The third Tomahawk score came in during injury time after Lonborg emptied his bench.

“Overall we played much better than the first time we played them (a 5-0 M-P win). Last time it looked like a track meet; this time we slowed them down by a lot.”

Lonborg said Paige Waterman “had a great game and stopped a couple of through balls that could have been trouble” and keeper Makenzie Perry “did a great job.”

He added, “Four of the last five games we have actually played well and have done a much better job of staying consistent. We have three games left and we need to finish strong.”

Amanda Klep scored two goals and assisted on the third for Marysville-Pilchuck.

The Wildcats (2-8, 4-8-1) host second-place Marysville Getchell (5-3-2, 7-4-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.
