Masters swimmers compete

North Whidbey Masters swimmers Sally Dillon and Joan Delgado recently competed in the National and World Championships, respectively.

Racing at the United States Masters Swimming Short Course Nationals in Austin, Texas, Dillon won the womens’ 60-to- 64-year old 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 23:48.71. Dillon also won a silver medal in the 200 freestyle, a bronze in the 100 freestyle and placed in the top six in three other events. She swam on the victorious women’s 55-plus 200-yard freestyle relay for the Pacific Northwest Association of Masters Swimmers.

Delgado, competed in the 60- to-64 year old age bracket at the 2008 FINA XII World Masters Championships in Perth, Australia, placing 17th in the 800 freestyle 15th in the 200 backstroke and 18th in the 100 backstroke.

She also competed on two scoring PNA relays including the 6th-place women’s 200-meter (cumulative ages of 200-239) freestyle relay that finished in a time 2:17.01.
