The ball bounced Meadowdale’s way as the Mavericks defeated the Oak Harbor High School soccer team 3-0 Thursday, Sept. 6, in the season opener at Edmonds Stadium.
Meadowdale scored in stoppage time in the first half, then added a tally on a penalty kick. Its final score came while Oak Harbor was pushing the attack late in the match.
“The girls played pretty solid,” coach Mike Lonborg said. “Mikhaela Cortez and Payton Rhyne were rock-steady the entire game.
“(We) generated some offensive chances but we just couldn’t cash in.”
Oak Harbor hosts Cascade (0-1) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.
