Jim McCleery, swimming for the North Whidbey Masters, set a national record Saturday, Oct. 22, in Bellevue.
McCleery swam the men’s 65-69 6,000-meter postal swim in 1:23.58, knocking 1:30 off the old mark.
McCleery will be competing along with several other NW Masters in their annual home meet Sunday, Nov. 13, at John Vanderzicht Pool from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The meet typically draws 80-100 masters swimmers from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. McCleary will be pursuing world records in the 400-, 800- and 1,500-meter freestyle.
