An offensive explosion in the second part of the game carried the Meadowdale High School baseball team to a 14-6 win over host Oak Harbor Tuesday, March 28.
With the game tied 3-3 after three innings, the Mavericks scored at least two runs in each of the final four to cruise to the win.
The loss was the seventh straight (fifth in conference play) for Oak Harbor. The Wildcats (0-5, 0-7) hope to break the string when they go to Shorecrest (1-3, 2-5) at 4 p.m. Friday, March 31.
After Meadowdale scored three times in the second inning, Oak Harbor responded immediately with its own three thanks to three Maverick errors, a single by Thomas Anderson and an RBI fielder’s choice from Dylan Bailey.
From the fourth inning on, Meadowdale piled up the runs. Oak Harbor, however, didn’t score again until the sixth. Will Danielson singled and was forced out by Chad Spradlin. Spradlin came around to score on a stolen base and two errors.
In the seventh, Oak Harbor added a pair of runs. James Besaw reached on an error and Trent Benson doubled. Besaw scored on Steven Richards’ ground out, and Benson scored on Anderson’s single.
Richards finished the game with two hits, one a double, and Anderson went 2-for-4. Bailey, Benson and Danielson registered the Wildcats’ only other hits.
Meadowdale touched three Oak Harbor pitchers for 13 hits.
