North Whidbey Aquatic Club’s Alana Miller’s USA Swimming AAAA time highlighted the efforts of 13 Blue Herons at the Pacific Northwest Swimming Division 1 Age Group Invitational at Mukilteo’s Kamiak High School Feb. 26-28.
In addition to Miller’s mark, NWAC posted numerous personal bests, qualified for a handful of finals, won five individual events and recorded multiple A to AAAA times.
USA Swimming establishes a series of times for each age group, starting with B and extending to AAAA, to motivate athletes to work for improvement.
An AAAA time is rare, according to NWAC coach Richard Taylor.
Miller, 10, won the 50-yard freestyle in 30.57, an AAAA time and a new NWAC age-group record. She also won the 100 butterfly.
Other winners were Lindsay Brown, 10 (200 individual medley); and Ashleigh Merrill, 12 (100 fly, 100 IM).
Miller, Brown and Merrill were named NWAC Co-Swimmers of the Meet by Taylor.
Those reaching AAA times were Brown (200 IM) and Merrill (100 fly, 100 free, 100 IM).
Brown (100 breaststroke) and Miller (200 IM) also clocked AA times.
Achieving A times were Patty Miessner, 14 (200 IM); Lea Opdyke, 10 (100 free, 200 free, 100 IM); and Kiersten Tyson, 9 (50 free).
Other swimmers to earn top-10 finishes were Haley Borja, 8; Jasmine Borja, 11; Lola Chargualaf, 10; Arianna Miessner, 10; Christopher Shashaty, 9; Patty Miessner; Opdyke; and Tyson.
