Errors hurt the Oak Harbor High School softball team again as it fell 9-5 at Marysville Getchell Monday, March 31.
The Chargers forced six Oak Harbor errors and scored six unearned runs to win the Wesco North opener for both schools.
Oak Harbor scored first in the top of the second when Kat Martinez walked and eventually scored on Nathalie Gotz’s fielder’s choice.
Marysville Getchell (1-0, 2-3) scored single runs in the second and third innings and two in the fourth to go up 4-1.
The Wildcats regained the lead with a four-run fifth, highlighted by Tricia Sarns’ bases-clearing triple.
The Chargers responded by scoring three in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on two in the sixth to pull away.
The Oak Harbor offense was led by Sarns, who also hit a single. Kelly Findley singled twice and Alexa Findley added a base hit for the Wildcats.
“We had base runners,” coach Todd Showalter said, “but couldn’t drive them in.”
Martinez pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits and five walks; she struck out five.
