Seven athletes from Chimera Mixed Martial Arts medaled this past weekend.

Jason Ellis captured the Friday Night Entertainment amateur 135-pound bantamweight title bout in Bellingham Friday, March 11.

Ellis defeated Frank Pefferman with a TKO at 2:09 of the first round.

Chimera head coach Benn Pyne said Ellis’s win was a first for an Oak Harbor athlete.

He added, “Jason Ellis is an exciting young, up-and-coming fighter that people should keep an eye on.”

Six other Chimera MMA athletes medaled at “The Revolution” Saturday, March 12, in Bonney Lake.

Kevin Lepeid took the title in adult men’s 188.6-202 pound NoGi.

Blake Bebee grabbed first in the adult men’s (blue belt) 167.6-181 pound Gi and second in adult men’s 175.6-188.5 pound NoGi. He also recorded the day’s fastest submission (17 seconds).

Brendan Parker was second in adult men’s (white belt) 154.1-167.5 pound class.

Third place was earned by Pyne in adult men’s 149.1-162 pound advanced NoGi and Justin Wilson in adult men’s 175.6-188.5 pound NoGi.

Other competitors from Chimera MMA included Brian Shuckarow and Luke Burnett.

Bebee and Parker will be competing on an international level March 24 and 25 at the Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Irvine, Calif.

April 23, Gary Ellis (brother and training partner of Jason Ellis) will be fighting for the Northwest Fight Challenge 135-pound bantamweight title in Lacey.
